Staying in the Lake District in January

Even on a budget, the Lake District in January can provide the perfect winter break in the British countryside. There are some cheap deals on offer, the roads are quieter and it’s the perfect excuse to get 2020 off to a great start.

If you are visiting the Lake District on a budget, then the Windermere Guesthouse and Hostel will already keep the cost down. After all, unlike boutique hotels or branded chains, we are able to offer somewhere to stay at a fraction of the cost.

However, we still pride ourselves on providing guests with comfortable and cosy accommodation. With just 6 rooms, there’s enough privacy, without the constant coming and going of larger establishments. As such, you can expect a good night’s sleep in your private room, rather than a hostel dormitory.

What to do in Windermere in January

January in the Lake District is always popular among fell-walkers. There are several reasons why those travelling on foot benefit from the beautiful scenery. By utilising the nearby public transport you don’t always have to focus on circular walking routes. Giving you the chance to leave the car at home and travel by bus, coach or train.

Plus the Lake District is a sight to behold in the winter weather regardless. Especially on those crisp mornings as the mist begins to clear over Lake Windermere and snow can be seen forming on the distant mountain tops.

Taking time to venture out on foot keeps the cost of your holiday down too, saving you pennies for some of the local attractions. Plan your time in Windermere for January now and you can get some great deals online. Such as combination tickets via Windermere Lake Cruises or the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway.

You can save money by joining a river cruise or steam train ride with that of the Lakes Aquarium, World of Beatrix Potter or the Lakeland Motor Museum. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat before returning to your Windermere Guesthouse, you may even have enough left over to sample a local ale.

After all, another bonus of travelling on a budget and not driving everywhere, is you can always call into the local bar for a pub lunch!

Lake District Weather, January 2020

Although we do promise a place to stay in Windermere while on a budget, we, unfortunately, can’t guarantee the sunshine. The forecast is often varied at the best of times in the UK, non-more so than with the Lake District Weather.

That said, we are ever optimistic and at the point of writing, the Lake District weather in January 2020 certainly isn’t all bad. In fact, mid-January is currently set to have the best of the winter weather, however, you may still want to bring a brolly!
